Community Supported Education in Action

Heartsong operates through a Community Supported Education (CSE) model, inspired by the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model used by farms.

As a Private Membership Association (PMA), we come together as families who peacefully assemble to educate our children and support one another in the shared work of community life.

Every family participating in Heartsong programs and private events is required to be a member of the Heartsong Private Membership Association.

What Membership Means…

Membership is more than a fee — it is a commitment.

Families collectively support the costs associated with buildings, educators, supplies, and materials required for the education of our children.

But beyond financial contribution, membership invites participation.

Heartsong is not a place where children are simply dropped off. It is a living, breathing community where families learn and grow together.

Members share responsibility for nurturing both the land and the well-being of the school community.

Living the CSE Model

At Heartsong, the CSE model comes to life through active participation, shared responsibility, and reciprocal care.

Families are not passive recipients of education, but co-creators of an educational culture that honors the child, the earth, and the unfolding of human potential.

This may look like:
• Supporting seasonal festivals
• Tending the land
• Assisting teachers
• Contributing skills or service
• Participating in workdays

Education here is not a commodity — it is a community practice.

Membership offers access to special programs and community gatherings:

Grades Drop-Ins

In addition to our annual Grades and Middle Grades programs, Heartsong offers flexible drop-in options during the school year.

Children ages 7–12 may attend drop-ins Monday through Friday, depending on availability. Students may also choose to enroll exclusively in Farm & Forest Friday, our weekly experiential learning day rooted in seasonal, hands-on education.

We do not offer drop-ins for children under age 6, as the developmental rhythms of early childhood are unique and deeply respected within our Kinderforest program. However, families preparing to enroll in Kinderforest may request transitional drop-in visits to gently support their child’s adjustment into the program.

Heartsong is committed to restoring well-being within our human family, acknowledging past heartache and trauma while forging a foundation of love, justice, and reconciliation for the unwritten future. We ensure children's ancestries are recognized and celebrated, weaving family festivals into our yearly events.

Our curriculum embraces diverse world languages, stories, and fairytales, fostering cultural connections and subtle moral teachings. This commitment extends through the kinder and grades, exploring global cultures, social responsibility, and honest world history. We equip children to thrive in an international world.

Additionally, we strive for economic inclusivity, offering trade/barter options, and more to enable all families to participate.
