Heartsong is an independent, nature-based learning community in the Columbia River Gorge, offering Waldorf-inspired educational programs for children and families.
Rooted in meaningful relationships, creativity, and a deep connection to nature, our community brings families together through educational programs, seasonal camps, celebrations, and shared experiences.
We believe children thrive when learning nurtures the whole child — head, heart, and hands — and when families feel connected to the community around them.
Our Philosophy
We believe meaningful learning grows through curiosity, creativity, and connection.
Drawing inspiration from Waldorf education, our approach weaves together storytelling, artistic expression, outdoor exploration, and practical work. Children are encouraged to observe, question, create, and develop confidence through experiences that engage their head, heart, and hands.
We honor each child’s individual journey, creating space for belonging, collaboration, and a lifelong love of learning.
Our Community Model
At Heartsong, families are an essential part of our learning community. We believe education is enriched when children, parents, teachers, and community members come together through shared experiences, meaningful relationships, and mutual support.
Our membership-based community creates opportunities for families to participate in educational programs, seasonal celebrations, gatherings, and collaborative experiences.
Together, we nurture a sense of belonging and shared responsibility, creating a community where children and families can learn, contribute, and grow.
Heartsong’s growing campus is located at the Sur Surita Garden at Atlan Community Commons, a place where nature, creativity, and community come together. As one of the organizations active on the land, we are grateful to be part of a shared environment that supports outdoor learning, meaningful connections, and community experiences.
Who We Serve
Heartsong welcomes children and families seeking meaningful, nature-based learning experiences in the Columbia River Gorge.
Our programs span early childhood through middle grades, including Child in Arms, Kinderforest (ages 3–6), Grades 1–4, and Middle Grades 5–8.
We also offer Friday Programs, Summer Camps, and opportunities for flexible participation based on each family’s needs.
Beyond our programs, Heartsong brings families together through seasonal celebrations, community gatherings, and shared experiences.
